Overhaul and maintenance of hydraulic system on oil recovery vessel.
On behalf of Damen Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam, we recently carried out a major hydraulic maintenance and overhaul project on oil recovery vessel Ms Arca.
Full maintenance and overhaul project.
This project was an extensive assignment lasting several months for our team, in which we replaced or overhauled almost all hydraulic components and piping on board the ship.
This included renewing all stainless steel piping (from 8 mm. to 60 mm.), as well as overhauling hydraulic cylinders and winches.
From 3D visualisation to new hydraulic piping.
The fine pipework was completely redrawn, including improved routes, within the framework of the existing ship. An interesting but challenging assignment for us.
First of all, a 3D scan of the entire ship was made for this, resulting in a 3D visualisation. Based on this, the piping was completely redrawn to the most optimal situation.
The stainless steel piping could then all be prepared and CNC-bent remotely, after which we installed and assembled it on site.
Mobile workshop placed on board the vessel.
To have all the necessary materials and tools on board, we placed a mobile workshop on the foredeck of the vessel.
For the finer pipework, among other things, we also made the necessary Walform connections here.
About the oil recovery vessel
The ship is an advanced oil spill response vessel including two sweeping arms of 15 metres each. Besides oil spill response, it is also used for seabed surveys and is on call for coastguard duties.
Project completed
We completed the job in February, and the vessel can now look forward to many more years of hydraulic work. We look back on a great job and a pleasant cooperation!
