Hydraulics on drilling tower of research vessel Geoquip Silvretta.

Commissioned by Geoquip Marine, we recently completed the hydraulic piping works on the drilling tower of a geotechnical research vessel.

Complete transformation

The Geoquip Silvretta has undergone an impressive transformation: from a platform supply vessel into one of the most advanced geotechnical research vessels in the market. Following an extensive refit, the vessel was officially commissioned last month and is now ready to support offshore projects worldwide.

What makes this even more special for us is that we were a trusted partner in this remarkable transformation!

Innovation on board

During the refit, the vessel was completely redesigned and outfitted for its new role. At its core is the state-of-the-art GMTR150 drilling rig. This advanced installation was specifically engineered for offshore geotechnical investigations, enabling the recovery of reliable soil and rock samples at significant depths.

Thanks to the integrated heave compensation system, the rig can operate safely and steadily even in heavy seas, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of measurements. The vessel also received a central moonpool providing direct access to the water for geotechnical operations, while safety systems and crew accommodations were thoroughly modernized.

Our contribution to the project

At Hydroos, we were responsible for the hydraulics of the drilling tower – an impressive structure of approximately 40 meters in height. We supplied the complete hydraulic piping system, which was carefully flushed and pressure-tested prior to installation. We then fitted all piping on board and connected it to the hydraulic equipment on deck.

We also supplied the hose assemblies for the drilling tower. During our time on board – both in Westdorpe and IJmuiden – we carried out various additional tasks, such as installing specific hydraulic components.

Ready for the future

The Geoquip Silvretta will play a key role in the development of offshore energy projects, including wind farms, cable and pipeline routes, and coastal infrastructure. With its dynamic positioning system (DP2) and robust equipment, it is capable of collecting highly accurate seabed data, essential for safe and sustainable foundation designs.

For Hydroos, this project stands as a flagship reference showcasing our expertise in hydraulic systems. We are immensely proud of our team!
